Present Tense Overview
The present tense describes habitual actions, general truths, and actions happening now. Spanish has three infinitive endings: -AR, -ER, and -IR. Each subject pronoun takes a specific ending when you conjugate.
-AR Verb Endings
Drop -ar and add: yo -o, tú -as, él/ella/usted -a, nosotros -amos, vosotros -áis, ellos/ustedes -an. Hablar becomes hablo, hablas, habla, hablamos, habláis, hablan.
-ER and -IR Verb Endings
-ER verbs: yo -o, tú -es, él -e, nosotros -emos, vosotros -éis, ellos -en. -IR verbs share the same endings as -ER except nosotros (-imos) and vosotros (-ís). Comer: como, comes, come. Vivir: vivo, vives, vive.
Stem-Changing and Irregular Verbs
Some verbs change stem vowels (e → ie, o → ue) in boot-shaped forms. Ser, estar, ir, and tener are common irregulars with unique forms. This pack focuses on regular patterns that cover most classroom verbs.
